We Bear Witness
The Birth Place Lab stands with Indigenous and Black people who have lost their lives at the hands of systemic injustices and brutality perpetuated by white supremacy culture. The disproportionate burden of untimely death, disease, injustice, incarceration, and mistreatment that Black and Indigenous people bear in North America, and globally, is unacceptable. Active anti-racist action in every facet of our lives is the only way forward. We must do this urgently - for our children and grandchildren, for the families of those lost, and to honour their ancestors.
We stand together today and always in sorrow with the families of the 215 children who lost their lives at the former Kamloops Indian residential school, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, Regis Korchinski-Paquet, Jamee Johnson, Eishia Hudson, David McAttee, Jason Collins, D’Andre Campbell, Dion Johnson, Layleen Cubilette-Polanco, Nina Pop, and countless other lives lost since first contact. We condemn racism and the continued, systemic oppression of Black and Indigenous people.
We stand with you.
